Maureen McCreadie Finds Her Voice

We stand in the wheelhouse of your inventive concept as it leaps across the boundless expanse of Invention Space. The sultry and saucy, yet at times (that is, when talking to Rich) cloying and irritating voice of the public address system is that of none other than Maureen McCreadie.  Though Maureen’s portrayal of that disembodied public address voice is her only appearance in Season One, we’ll be hearing a lot more from her in the coming seasons.

Backdrop

Maureen began her career as a faculty librarian at Bucks County Community College in Newtown, Pennsylvania.  Maureen’s experience as a faculty librarian complemented her other numerous and varied academic pursuits and achievements as both student and professor to make her well suited for her next position, Dean of the Arts Department. After that, Maureen served as Associate Provost of Learning Resources, a challenge encompassing the Library, eLearning, and Tutoring, as well as the college’s team taught, multi-disciplinary Integration Of Knowledge courses. Recently, Maureen happily returned to the faculty as Professor of Communication in the Arts Department.

Maureen also co-teaches a multi-disciplinary eLearning course on Social Media at the College. She has enjoyed opportunities to serve on the EDUCAUSE Learning Initiative Advisory Board (2008-2011), the EDUCAUSE 2013 Program Committee, and on the Editorial Board of ACRL’s journal, College and Research Libraries. She also served as Vice Chair of the National Council for Learning Resources (NCLR).

During her four decades in higher education, Maureen’s primary area of research and publication has been in pursuit of a theoretical understanding of access to information. Her investigation has been multidisciplinary and has sought to view the research questions from multiple perspectives. Her background as a faculty leader at her institution and her interest in labor issues are reflected in her publication history, which includes Accessing and Browsing Information and Communication, coauthored with Ronald E. Rice and Shan-Ju L. Chang, and published by the MIT Press in 2001.

During Maureen’s tenure as Associate Provost of Learning Resources, the Bucks County Community College Library became a hotbed of innovation poised to deliver targeted information in support of students, faculty and the community at large, integrating the latest networked electronic techniques with the forward looking design of engaging and thriving thought environments.  For that work, the Library was awarded the prestigious Excellence in Academic Libraries Award by the Association of College & Research Libraries (ACRL) in 2010.

Maureen holds a B.A. in Art History from Cornell University, an M.S. in Library and Information Science from Simmons College, and a Ph.D. in Communication & Information Studies from Rutgers University, the State University of New Jersey (1998).

Slip-Up

Maureen McCreadie is married to Rich Clikeman, a slip-up that has cost her dearly on a daily basis, and just shows you that even the best and brightest can make the odd choice on a rare occasion.
